- Notes From the Field: “At the time I took this shot (April 26th, ’07), “Mimpi” was around 5 months old. She’s now nearly 2 1/2 years old, bur still quite small. It was taken at Tama Zoological Park in Western Tokyo, Japan, using a Canon EOS 30D, EF 300mm f/2.8L USM lens + Extender EF 2x II (600mm) at 400 ISO.” — Steve Tracy
Editor’s Review:
“Young orangutans are another favorite of mine. Every year we see numerous images of these wonderful creatures and most every shot is unique in some detail. The way the hair stands up on the head, the curious yet knowing eyes, the facial expressions, the human-like behavior – all bring animation to the still photograph. This particular shot provides a nice perspective of a young orangutan clinging to its mother who is inquisitive about what’s going on. The photographer did a great job with lighting and sharp focus to catch the action.” — Steve Freligh
