- Notes From the Field: “This shot was taken at a dog mushing camp about 30 miles from Fairbanks, Alaska. I wanted to capture some of the dogs’ hyperactivity when they’re not pulling a sled. When you approach them, they go crazy. I used a 17mm wide-angle lens and shot from my belly on the ground. This picture is a result of a lot of shooting. I snapped hundreds of photos to get what I had envisioned.” — Mike Wiley
Editor’s Review:
“This is how to make a familiar photo stand out from the rest. The perspective is unusual, the focus on the sled dog is sharp and the lighting is perfect. The composition is simple yet dramatic, bringing action to the shot. And the expression on the dog is playful, even though they are hard working animals. Always look for unusual perspectives when you shoot. How would this subject look from a ground-eye-view? It will be those images that catch the eye of a photo editor.” — Steve Freligh
