- Notes From the Field: “I shot the spider Fusco marginatus in an upland moor, on a trunk of pine. As I know the biotopes of these spiders I was looking specially for them. Of course, it is not very easy to notice them because the color of the spider is the same as the color of the bark of pine. Sometimes I used scratching of the trunk with a stick to get the spider to move. When it is moving it is easier to see.” — Lukas Jonaitis

Editor’s Review:
“Capturing an image that displays camouflage in nature is a lot harder than you think. First of all, the creatures that are attempting to blend into their environment do a good job of it and they often go unnoticed. Secondly, once you discover this behavior it can be difficult to actually show or rather separate the creature from its background. This image offers an extraordinary job of allowing us to see the spider, yet enjoy its ability to disappear into its habitat. The lighting, color balance, and sharp focus are excellent!”— Steve Freligh
