Notes From the Field: “How I got this shot was by following these bears all summer long during the Salmon Season along the Russian River. From the confluence of the Kenai & Russian River to the Upper Russian River Falls. Spending all day and everyday as possible that I could spend with them trying to get all of the antics that they could or would give me. Photographing these two adolescents was the highlight of my bear season, for they gave me a lot of good images.
The equipment that I used was a Canon 1DS Mark III and a Canon 100-400 mm lens. I was at focal length 400 mm, F Stop 5.6 with an exposure time of 1/200 set at ISO 400.” — Buck Shrek
Editor’s Review:
“Just as we all shake off the easy days of summer and plunge back into the more regimented days at the office, along comes a shot that reminds us to smile and reflect on splashing about in the water and enjoying good friends. This playful moment was captured in excellent focus and lighting. I wish I could see the expression of the other bear, but the sharp focus on the paw of the facing bear attracts my attention immediately. Well done and a refreshing memory of summer fun.” — Steve Freligh
