- Notes From the Field: “This was from a gorilla-tracking expedition in Rwanda’s Volcanos National Park. This was the alpha male (silverback) of a small tribe of Mountain Gorillas. He was a ravenous feeder for a vegetarian. The gorillas are very docile and comfortable around humans, but they like to keep an eye on you.”—John Hayes
Editor’s Review:
“Sharp focus, amazing subject, interesting behavior, and a humorous pose – all the ingredients for a shot that will connect with a wide audience of viewers. These photos are not easy to come by and my congratulations to John for making an image that I will visit again and again.”— Steve Freligh
